Why Southern Milling?

Quality Ingredients

We source native cereals and approved raw materials, testing every delivery to tight tolerances before it enters our mill. Quality starts before the first tonne is milled.

Nutrition Expertise

Our nutrition team works directly with farmers — balancing rations against forage, reviewing herd performance data, and adjusting formulations to match real conditions on the ground.

Modern Milling Technology

Our Cork-based facility runs state-of-the-art milling, mixing, and pelleting equipment. Automated systems ensure every batch meets precise nutritional specifications.

Consistent Performance

Batch-to-batch consistency matters. Our quality control processes and lab analysis mean the feed you receive this month performs like the feed you received last month.

Dependable Delivery

Our fleet covers the south of Ireland with reliable, on-time deliveries. We understand that empty bins cost money, so logistics is a priority — not an afterthought.

Holstein Friesian dairy cows

Dairy Feeds

Supporting milk yield, milk solids, fertility, and herd health from calving through to drying off.

Dairy production places significant nutritional demands on the cow — particularly in early lactation when energy requirements peak. Our dairy feed range is formulated to bridge the energy gap between forage intake and production demand, supporting high yields without compromising body condition, fertility, or rumen health.

Whether you're milking 60 cows or 600, our nutrition team can help design a feeding programme that works with your forage base, your system, and your targets.

Our Dairy Feed Range

Core Dairy Feeds
Balanced parlour rations for spring and autumn calving herds, formulated to complement grass and silage-based diets throughout the lactation.
High-Energy Rations
Energy-dense feeds for early lactation cows, designed to support peak yield and minimise negative energy balance in the critical first 100 days.
Calf & Youngstock Feeds
Starter rations, calf pencils, and weanling feeds to support rumen development and early growth rates in replacement heifers and young stock.
Mineral & Balancer Products
Pre-calving minerals, lactation minerals, and balancer feeds to address trace element and vitamin requirements at critical production stages.

Beef Feeds

Maximising daily liveweight gain, feed conversion, and finishing efficiency.

Beef profitability hinges on daily liveweight gain, feed conversion efficiency, and cost per kilogram of gain. Whether you're finishing cattle for the factory, growing stores, or feeding suckler cows, the right ration makes the difference between margin and loss.

Our beef feeds are formulated using high-quality cereals and protein sources to deliver consistent growth rates, efficient feed conversion, and a reliable finish that meets factory specifications.

Our Beef Feed Range

Finishing Rations
High-energy finishing feeds designed for maximum daily gain in the final weeks before slaughter, with consistent pellet quality for ad-lib or restricted feeding.
Store & Growing Feeds
Balanced rations for growing cattle, designed to build frame and muscle efficiently while complementing available silage or grazing.
Suckler Cow Feeds
Pre-calving and lactation feeds for suckler cows, supporting cow condition, colostrum quality, and calf vigour at birth.
Mineral & Balancer Products
Targeted mineral supplementation for housed and grazing cattle, addressing common trace element deficiencies in Irish soil and forage.

Sheep Feeds

Ewe nutrition, lamb growth, and mid-season performance — all from feeds designed for Irish flocks.

Sheep production in Ireland demands feeds that deliver results at critical moments — pre-lambing nutrition that drives colostrum quality and lamb birth weight, lactation feeds that support milk for twins and triplets, and creep and finisher feeds that get lambs to target weight on time.

Our sheep range is formulated specifically for Irish sheep systems. We understand the challenges of variable forage quality, mid-season demand, and the economics of getting lambs away early.

Our Sheep Feed Range

Ewe Feeds
Pre-lambing and lactation rations formulated to support ewe body condition, colostrum production, and milk yield for twin- and triplet-bearing ewes.
Lamb Creep & Finisher
Palatable creep feeds to encourage early intake, plus finisher rations that maintain daily gain through to factory weight.
Hogget Feeds
Rations for hoggets being carried through to the following season, supporting growth without excessive condition.
Mineral & Vitamin Supplements
Targeted sheep minerals for pre-lambing, mid-season, and tupping, addressing common Irish soil deficiencies.

Feed Ingredients

Quality-assured raw materials, tested and traceable from source to finished feed.

The quality of any finished feed starts with the raw materials. At Southern Milling, we source the highest-quality cereals, proteins, oils, and additives — with full traceability from supplier to finished product. Every delivery is sampled and tested in our on-site laboratory before being accepted into the mill.

Our ingredient sourcing philosophy is built on long-term supplier relationships, rigorous quality standards, and a commitment to using native Irish cereals wherever possible.

Key Ingredient Categories

Cereals

Barley, wheat, oats, and maize form the energy base of our feeds. We prioritise native Irish cereals, sourced from approved tillage growers, and test every load for moisture, bushel weight, and mycotoxin levels.

Proteins

Soya bean meal, rapeseed meal, distillers grains, and other protein sources are selected for amino acid profile, digestibility, and consistency. All protein sources meet our approved supplier standards.

Fats & Oils

Protected fats, palm oil, and vegetable oils provide energy density in high-performance feeds. We select fat sources based on fatty acid profile and rumen bypass characteristics where required.

Minerals & Vitamins

A comprehensive range of macro and trace minerals, vitamins, and specialist additives. All mineral premixes are formulated to address the specific deficiencies common in Irish soils and forages.

Quality Assurance

Our quality assurance programme covers every stage from ingredient intake to finished feed dispatch. Key elements include:

  • On-site laboratory testing of all incoming raw materials
  • Tight manufacturing tolerances monitored by automated systems
  • Full HACCP certification and documented hazard analysis
  • Approved supplier programme with regular audits
  • Retained samples from every batch for traceability
